Happy New Year to the entire Operation Southern Comfort family!!
A Student's Testimonial
SC37 - January 14-222012 is coming soon, and with it a new schedule of Operation Southern Comfort trips to St. Bernard Parish and the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Believe it or not, our to-do list contains 33 building and rebuilding projects, some of which are close to completion.
SC37 will take place January 14-22.
As usual, we're short on experienced people and drivers. The cost is only $280, which covers transportation, food and lodging. You can sign up on this website, at Trips, Register.
SC36 - October TripSC36 is scheduled for October 8-16 this year. The cost is $280, $140 if you've gone previously this year. We'll be working on Bubby's and rebecca's houses, and likely on Flood Street too. Thanks for your consideration.
Local Volunteer Opportunity - Acts of Kindness WeekendNext month, Operation Southern Comfort will participate in Acts of Kindness (A-OK!) Weekend, sponsored by Women Transcending Boundaries. Women Transcending Boundaries was started in Syracuse by two women—a Christian and a Muslim—in the immediate aftermath of 9/11/2001. Today it is an egalitarian community of hundreds of women from many faith and cultural traditions. Last year, WTB created the first Acts of Kindness (A-OK!) Weekend as a way to turn a day of tragedy and mourning into a weekend of civic engagement and volunteerism.
Report to the Family - August, 20112011 has been another eventful year. 381 volunteers have made the trip to New Orleans & St. Bernard - we worked, laughed and cried. We made great progress and were able to finish several projects. However, there are many still on our list, and more waiting for help. Some of our priorities:
Scottish Games - August 13
Do you love bagpipes and drums? (Who doesn't?) Do you love kilts and knee socks? (Of course!) Are you a fan of beer and Haggis? (Duh?) If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you must attend the Scottish Games at Longbranch Park, in Liverpool, on Aug. 13th, 2011.
The 4th ANNUAL CRAWFISH OPEN!!!DON'T MISS IT! IT'S GONNA BE GREAT!! TIMBER BANKS IS AN OUTSTANDING COURSE.
for more info, and to sign up, click 'Crawfish Open' to the left of this website - hit 'em long and straight!!
UPCOMING TRIP NEEDS - DRIVERS!Operation Southern Comfort Needs you! If you're over 25, can drive and would like to help out on the Gulf Coast, please consider this.
SC33, which will take place March 12 - 20; and SC34, April 16 - 24; are both in need. Both scheduled trips have in excess of 80 volunteers; both need at least 10 more drivers. One driver will allow 4 eager students to serve their Gulf Coast sisters and brothers.
Mardi Gras DecorationsDo you remember Mardi Gras 2? the event at the MOST - November 2008? wasn't it a smash? WE HAVE A PROBLEM The decorations, eg street signs/lights, wall hangs, table art, pictures - all the stuff we used to decorate the museum - are lost. If you know anything about this, please call Joyce Reap (457-8789) or me (Norm Andrzejewski - 559-9413) immediately. Thank you so much!
